Out-Patient Services

The Recovery House provides out-patient services to those individuals who are no longer in need of the day program services, and would be better off availing counseling and other supportive services at TRH on a regular or need basis. Outpatient care may be given to clients as a step down from the day program, for clients who don’t need as much care and monitoring anymore and are well on their way to recovery, and can be reintegrated into their normal lives. However, outpatient care is not limited to clients as an exclusively step down unit; clients may also be accepted directly into outpatient care, and if the need be, may be stepped up to the day care program, depending on the client’s condition.

TRH’s outpatient program provides outpatient psychiatric evaluation and treatment for persons 18 years of age or older. The psychiatric rehabilitation practitioners (psychiatrists and psychologists) are skilled in treating persons with a wide variety of diagnoses, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression, anxiety disorders, and adjustment disorders to life stressors. Problems involving relationship difficulties, trouble coping with stress, trauma, problems with substance abuse, and anger management issues are often the focus of treatment. The frequency of appointments with a practitionermay vary upon need, and medication management visits with a psychiatrist occur if concern is expressed by the psychologist.

TRH’s outpatient program includes:

1. Adolescents (18 and older) who are struggling with psychiatric diagnoses or psychological issues and need counseling to manage their illness or challenges and improve their academic performance and social life.
2. Adults struggling with mental illness who need treatment to achieve stability and meet their individual goals for psychiatric stability, medication management, illness management, habitation, employment, and social functioning but whose symptoms are not severe enough to qualify them for the Residential program.

Respite Care

This program seeks to give respite to caregivers of individuals with mental illnesses, and is premised on the belief that caregivers needs to take care of themselves before they can be able to take care of others.

The aim of this program is to provide short-term alternate care arrangements to provide support to caregivers and families, for them to be able to maintain their caring role by providing them a short break from their responsibilities towards a family member who is completely and entirely dependent upon them. This allows caregivers to recoup energies and resume their caregiving role with renewed better physical and emotional health.

At the same time, it is also a way for individuals with mental illnesses to have a break from the monotony of their everyday lives and surroundings, as well as an escape from the friction that is likely to occur between them and their caregivers. A few days or weeks can aid recovery or the general wellbeing just as much, when you have a mental illness, and therefore, respite care is a short break which gives both, the caregiver and the recipient of their care (ie. the individual with mental illness) some time away in different surroundings.
